The Mall

The Mall is music for punks who find a thrill in getting pitted on the dancefloor. Taking inspiration from malls, hallmarks of middle America's suburban wasteland, St. Louis-based musician, Mark Plant, uses sequencers and analog synthesizers to raise the dead from their forgotten tombs of conspicuous consumption into a world of glamourous decay. By fusing the shimmering, plastic qualities of 80s dance electronica with the punishing, visceral energy of midwestern hardcore, The Mall soundtracks the liminal space between beauty and anger, celebration and cynicism, resilience and destruction. A human merging with the machine, The Mall's Audiotree Live Session drops us off hot, a little frightened, and very sweaty with their mix of hip-shaking punk tailor-made for a dystopian fever dream. During their interview with Audiotree Host, Psalm One, The Mall chats about their creative process, their vision for the perfect food court, and some of their favorite St. Louis artists.
