Tara Terra

Tara Terra began as the solo project of lead vocalist and guitarist Emily Otnes, but quickly became the group it is today in order to complete Otnes’ musical vision. Their debut release, “Daughter,” is a downtempo indie rock record with sprinkles of math rock emanating from Colin Althaus’ giddy guitar. There are also tinges of country and classical, mostly shown through Alleya Weibel’s climactic violin movements. Otnes herself rounds out the band’s personality; her colorful voice bounces over judicious instrumental arrangements with a purposeful swagger. Althaus used his studio savvy to add personal touches to the record’s final production.

All six members of the band are close friends currently attending the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, and are working toward degrees that range from psychology to music performance. The small but supportive local scene provides ample opportunity to grow and cultivate superior musicianship, and Tara Terra are active contributors in broadening the scene’s reach. With a high level of instrumental knowledge, a captivating performance, and distinct musical goals, Tara Terra have a competitive edge in the indie rock landscape.
