Barcelona is a harmonious pop band. Recently they’ve found themselves informed by an early 90’s R&B sound. Brian Fennell’s soaring vocals are peppered with runs and soft vibrato. He sings out sharply and clearly, accompanied by Branden Cate’s swooning backups. All of it is driven by a deep, swaggering groove of both keys and four-on the floor drums.

This year they released the last installment of a three EP series, The Melodrama, which is an evolution in the band’s formerly pop-heavy sound. Though still prominently pop music, the band admits to taking themselves less seriously through age and endeavoring instead to create a sound they love to listen to. With input from wives and significant others, Barcelona guides their sound to more soul-focused, throwback tunes.
